SUMMARY:Cedar Rapids Bassmasters - Bellevue
DESCRIPTION:Bass Fishing on the Mississippi River in Bellevue\, Iowa\nBellevue\, Iowa\, located along the Mississippi River\, offers excellent opportunities for bass fishing\, particularly in the backwaters and current seams. This area is known for its diverse habitat and the potential to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass. \nFishing the Backwaters for Big Largemouth Bass\nThe backwaters of the Mississippi River near Bellevue are prime locations for targeting big largemouth bass. These areas provide a calm and sheltered environment where bass can thrive. The backwaters are often filled with aquatic vegetation\, submerged logs\, and other structures that offer bass plenty of cover and ambush points. \nAnglers should focus on casting near these structures and using lures that mimic the natural prey of largemouth bass\, such as frogs\, worms\, and minnows. Topwater baits\, such as hollow-bodied frogs and plastic frogs\, can be particularly effective in the backwaters\, especially during the early morning and late evening when bass are most active. \nFishing Current Seams for Smallmouth Bass\nCurrent seams\, where fast-moving water meets slower-moving water\, are excellent spots for targeting smallmouth bass on the Mississippi River. Smallmouth bass are known for their preference for areas with a moderate to strong current\, as it brings a steady supply of food and oxygen. \nAnglers should look for current seams near structures such as rocks\, points\, and eddies. These areas provide smallmouth bass with a place to rest and ambush prey. Using lures that can be effectively fished in the current\, such as crankbaits\, spinnerbaits\, and soft plastics\, can increase the chances of success. It’s important to present the lure in a way that mimics the natural movement of prey in the current\, often by casting upstream and allowing the lure to drift downstream. \nConclusion\nBass fishing on the Mississippi River in Bellevue\, Iowa\, offers a unique and rewarding experience for anglers. By focusing on the backwaters for big largemouth bass and current seams for smallmouth bass\, anglers can increase their chances of landing impressive catches. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newcomer to the sport\, the diverse habitat and dynamic conditions of the Mississippi River make it an exciting destination for bass fishing.

SUMMARY:Cedar Rapids Bassmasters - Lansing
DESCRIPTION:July Bass Fishing on Pool 9 of the Mississippi River out of Lansing\, Iowa\nJuly is an exciting time for bass fishing on Pool 9 of the Mississippi River\, located near Lansing\, Iowa. The hot summer months bring unique challenges and opportunities for anglers looking to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass. One of the most effective techniques during this time is fishing with topwater baits\, such as hollow-bodied frogs\, plastic frogs\, Pop R baits\, and Zara Spooks. These baits often prove to be the winning choice for landing big bass. \nChallenges of Summer Bass Fishing\nFishing in the hot summer months can be challenging due to the high temperatures and increased activity on the water. Bass tend to seek cooler\, deeper waters during the heat of the day\, making them harder to locate. However\, early mornings and late evenings can be prime times for bass fishing\, as the fish are more likely to be in shallower waters and actively feeding. \nTopwater Baits for Big Bass\nTopwater baits are particularly effective during the summer months\, as they mimic the natural prey of bass and create an enticing surface disturbance that can trigger aggressive strikes. Here are some topwater baits that are often successful in Pool 9: \n\nHollow-Bodied Frogs: These baits are designed to mimic the appearance and movement of a frog\, making them ideal for fishing in areas with heavy vegetation. The hollow body allows the bait to float on the surface\, while the weedless design helps prevent snagging.\nPlastic Frogs: Similar to hollow-bodied frogs\, plastic frogs are effective in weedy areas and can be worked slowly across the surface to entice strikes. Their lifelike appearance and movement make them a favorite among anglers.\nPop R Baits: These baits create a popping sound and splash when retrieved\, mimicking the movement of a struggling baitfish. The noise and surface disturbance can attract bass from a distance\, making them an excellent choice for open water and along the edges of vegetation.\nZara Spooks: Known for their “walk-the-dog” action\, Zara Spooks are topwater baits that zigzag across the surface when retrieved. This erratic movement can trigger aggressive strikes from bass\, especially in open water and along structure.\nSPRO’s Flapping Frog has recently taken the river by storm and has produced many bags over 20 pounds.\n\nRewards of Summer Bass Fishing\nDespite the challenges\, summer bass fishing on Pool 9 can be incredibly rewarding. The river’s diverse habitat provides ample opportunities for anglers to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass. The thrill of seeing a big bass explode on a topwater bait is an experience that many anglers cherish. \nAdditionally\, the scenic beauty of Pool 9 and the surrounding area adds to the overall enjoyment of the fishing experience. The river’s winding channels\, lush vegetation\, and abundant wildlife create a picturesque backdrop for a day on the water. \nConclusion\nJuly bass fishing on Pool 9 of the Mississippi River out of Lansing\, Iowa\, offers a unique and exciting challenge for anglers. By using topwater baits like hollow-bodied frogs\, plastic frogs\, Pop R baits\, and Zara Spooks\, anglers can increase their chances of landing big bass. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newcomer to the sport\, the rewards of summer bass fishing on Pool 9 are well worth the effort.

SUMMARY:Cedar Rapids Bassmasters - Guttenberg (Below Dam)
DESCRIPTION:Bass Fishing at Pool 11 of the Mississippi River in Iowa\nPool 11 of the Mississippi River in Iowa is a renowned spot for bass fishing\, offering anglers the opportunity to catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass. This stretch of the river is known for its diverse habitat and challenging conditions\, making it a favorite among experienced anglers. Understanding the importance of fishing with the current is crucial for success in this dynamic environment. \nImportance of Fishing with Current\nFishing with the current in a river is essential for locating both largemouth and smallmouth bass. The current plays a significant role in the behavior and positioning of bass\, as they often use it to their advantage for feeding and conserving energy. Here are some key points to consider: \n\nBass Positioning: Bass tend to position themselves in areas where they can easily ambush prey while expending minimal energy. This often means they will be found near structures such as rocks\, submerged logs\, and weed beds that break the current. These structures provide bass with a place to hide and wait for food to come to them.\nFeeding Patterns: The current brings a steady supply of food to the bass\, making it an ideal feeding ground. Anglers should focus on areas where the current flows into or around structures\, as these are prime spots for bass to be actively feeding. Using lures that mimic the natural prey of bass\, such as minnows or crayfish\, can be particularly effective in these areas.\nLure Presentation: When fishing in a river\, it’s important to present your lure in a way that looks natural to the bass. This often means casting upstream and allowing the lure to drift with the current\, mimicking the movement of prey. A slow and steady retrieve can also be effective\, as it gives the bass time to strike.\nAdjusting to Conditions: River conditions can change rapidly\, with fluctuations in water levels and current speed. Anglers need to be adaptable and ready to adjust their strategies based on the current conditions. This may involve changing the type of lure\, the speed of the retrieve\, or the location being fished.\n\nChallenges and Rewards\nFishing at Pool 11 of the Mississippi River can be challenging due to the ever-changing conditions and the need for precise techniques. However\, the rewards are well worth the effort. The river is home to a healthy population of both largemouth and smallmouth bass\, offering anglers the chance to catch some impressive fish. The thrill of landing a big bass in the dynamic environment of the Mississippi River is an experience that many anglers cherish. \nConclusion\nBass fishing at Pool 11 of the Mississippi River in Iowa is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. Understanding the importance of fishing with the current and adapting to the river’s conditions are key to success. DESCRIPTION:Tournament number four finally gets underway as NNPBS wisely moved the raging river event away from flood torn ramps and parking facilities in Prairie Du Chein\, Wisconsin. \nThis season has been a wild ride for huge pre-spawn weights and rain soaked events in early summer.  The points are tight but the bass are big this year so it’s anyone’s game! \nNNPBS 4 of 5 for 2024. \n

SUMMARY:Non Nonsense Prairie Bass Series - 3 of 5
DESCRIPTION:NNPBS head into event three of five for 2024!  The teams near the top better stay on it as the mid pack teams always make their push as summer starts to heat up the backwaters at Prairie du Chien\, Wisconsin.  Strategies shift as bass begin to move toward their long hot summer neighborhoods. \nThere’s no doubt the top water frogs will be flying high as temperatures follow suit.  Power fishing becomes a driving factor as weights start to tip the scales in one of the most competitive events for NNPBS. \nWith plenty of sponsors teams who almost make the money are often rewarded with gift packs\, gift cards or relevant baits donated by multiple companies. \nThe staff make every effort to get to know the 90 plus teams throughout the year and are genuinely grateful for your participation. \nIf you don’t qualify after fishing all five events you get one last change to make their Classic by fishing the Wildcard event.  This Wildcard event is a nice touch to reward dedication and effort from some excellent teams who just had some bad luck.  A nice touch that makes for an excellent two day Classic! \nIf you want to fish the Mississippi river\, you need to fish with this series and experience all the challenges the great Mississippi river has to offer.

SUMMARY:Iowa B.A.S.S. - Spring State @ Okoboji (2 Day)
DESCRIPTION:The Iowa Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) is hosting a spring two day bass tournament on the beautiful lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa. The tournament will take place on May 18 and 19\, 2024\, and will feature some of the best bass anglers in the state. The lake is known for its clear water and abundant largemouth bass\, which will be spawning during the tournament. This means that the fish will be aggressive and easy to locate\, making for an exciting and competitive event. The anglers will be aiming to catch the heaviest five-fish limit each day\, and the total weights could be record breaking. The winner of the tournament will receive a prizes and the title of State winner for B.A.S.S\, as well as bragging rights among the bass fishing community. \nB.A.S.S. is the original bass fishing series in the United States\, founded in 1968 by Ray Scott. B.A.S.S. organizes tournaments for both professional and amateur anglers\, as well as promoting conservation and education of the sport. B.A.S.S. tournaments are a gateway to the Bassmaster Classic\, the most prestigious and lucrative bass fishing championship in the world. The Bassmaster Classic is held annually and attracts millions of viewers and fans. To qualify for the Bassmaster Classic\, anglers have to compete in various B.A.S.S. circuits\, such as the Bassmaster Elite Series\, the Bassmaster Opens\, the Bassmaster College Series\, and the Bassmaster Nation. B.A.S.S. is the ultimate destination for bass fishing enthusiasts who want to challenge themselves and showcase their skills.

SUMMARY:Cedar Valley Bassmasters
DESCRIPTION:The first tournament of 2024 starts at Lake Belva Deer! \nLake Belva Deer quietly sits in southern Iowa as an awesome bass fishing lake.  The quality and quantity of bass here is excellent and the fact that it’s underfished for the most part is an excellent advantage for clubs willing to travel here. \nFrom the deeps of the southern end that is sprinkled with rock and nestled in deep timber\, the the top end of shallow flats that are welcomed via man made rock piles and earthy raised humps in strategically placed areas throughout the lake. \nIf you like pitching a wacky worm in the trees or enjoy using your forward facing sonar\, this might just be your chance to shine! \nBe careful not to confuse this lake with endless choices of baits\, once you find them you’ll be in great shape. \n
