Going into their 3rd year, No Nonsense Prairie Bass Series continues to impress with straight forward formats and simplicity most anglers appreciate.
The first tournament of 2023 kicks off on April 29th, 2023! The winter blues are finally gone and anglers are eager to hit the water and the tournament trails.
With water temps still brisk, anglers will need to “think like a fish, a cold fish” if they expect a check in this tournament. Either way, it’s finally time to get those bass boats out and get moving! Iowa bass fishing, it’s doesn’t get much better than this.
The backwaters struggle to find enough sunshine for significant plant regeneration and the water temps remain chilly. The river has a way of coming back fast so initial vegetation growth has taken place and early bass may be cruising. While smallmouth are surely working their spawn, largemouth are trying to warm up for the spring and begin to creep up. River current remains a serious factor and seasoned anglers will target it. Deep holes, points and migration routes will see plenty of boats for this kickoff event of 2023. Most agree that slowing down is a staple of cold water fishing and the river is no exception.
While the bite can be tough, if you find them you have a shot, or is it drop shot? Tight lines anglers and bundle up!
No Nonsense Prairie Bass Series (NNPBS) kicks off their third year of Mississippi river bass tournaments! Launching from Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. The Washington Street ramp facility is the launch and weigh in location. These have become very popular tournaments as anglers must stay on Pool 10 and your chances of winning go up as anglers must fish the same areas.
NNPBS is a points based series that rewards the top 20 point leaders to fish a “Classic” event at the end of the season. This Classic is a no entry fee tournament and only the top 20 teams are allowed to fish.
New for 2023 is the “Wildcard Tournament”. While yet to be defined, this event is likely a last chance for the non top 20 teams to get into the Classic.
NNPBS showed no signs of a sophomore slump in their second season of tournaments. The number of boats continued to exceed 60 in most events and even 70 in others. Eric Johnston and Adam Farmer team up with their immediate families and close friends to put on an extremely well organized bass series.
Going into 2023 things continue on with excellent boat numbers and top notch anglers and payouts!
Launching orders are decided via random draws that are live on Facebook the Thursday before the event. This normally takes place at one of the sponsors facilities and anglers attending often get up to 15% discounts.
Launch and weigh in procedures are well organized. Anglers are asked to arrive early and get their bass boats in the water to avoid delays. Weigh Ins are prompt, organized and again live fed from Facebook. A large LED sign shows the weights as the fish cross the scales and Eric is easily heard via a microphone and speaker. The calculations are fairly timely considering there are over 60 teams and winnings processed at the events.
This series continues to impress and the NNPBS founders remain angler oriented while loyal to their sponsors.
