Things you should know about bass fishing at Hawthorn Lake, Iowa.

There are no restrooms at the ramp, so you’ll need to find an alternate solution.

Hawthorn Lake has been a favorite of many fisherman in central Iowa for decades.  Hawthorn continues to produce quality largemouth bass populations year after year.  From the rock jetties stationed next to vegetation flats, to the timber lined west banks, this lake has plenty to offer.  The spillway wall always attracts pan fishing boats and bass boats alike.  Throw in some deep points and secondary points as well as the rocky shoreline near the gravel traveled eastern ramp, and this is a really fun lake to fish.

The recent surge in kayaking has rekindled interest in the lake for new, smaller vessels in search of the illusive largemouth.  It’s great to see a new generation of anglers enjoying our great outdoors.

This is an excellent lake to learn more about your electronics as well.  With all the structure and depth changes, couples with no river current and a few spots to get out of the wind, your time learning those LCD screens will pay off in spades.
