Things you should know about tournament fishing Green Valley Lake in Union county, Iowa.

The ramp area is smaller but does have restrooms and some decent trailer parking areas.  Next to the ramp is a big fishing pier which should keep shore fishing folks off the launch dock.  If the trailer spots are full, local park along the exit lane off to the right, partially on the grass.  12 boats should be fine, anything more and you’ll be parking up along side the road.

This lake has been known for very large and excellent bass fishing in Iowa.  You’ll need to prepare for big bass so bring the right baits, line and net.

Green Valley is know for brush piles and long weed lines.  Find your favorite brush pile and position your boat to suit your style of lure.  With darker waters, after rains, don’t be afraid to get close and flip or drop shot them.  You’ll go through some tackle but the payoff can be big.  Once you find the bass, stay put and go through that are slowly.  On Green Valley the bass school up and sit in small pockets, don’t move off too quickly.

Don’t shy about fishing big swim baits in Green Valley Lake.  Tournament winners here might try to keep the big goby or glide baits out of sight at weigh in, but rest assured they’re used on the regular here.  Early spring time bass love a slow rolled goby right off the bottom, hold on and enjoy!

Don’t be fooled by the size of this lake, if you’re hunting trophy Iowa bass, you’ve come to the right place.  18″ rules are posted and in effect, so please practice catch and release and let this hog farm keep growing.
